Pine Warbler

Field marks

  1. Hefty, long-tailed warbler with a relatively stout, pointed bill.
  2. Yellow to yellow-olive head, throat, and breast; females and immatures may be much duller or grayish.
  3. Olive-green upperparts with grayer, darker wings.
  4. Two pale white wingbars are usually visible on the folded wing.
  5. Pale, often broken eyering gives the face a weakly spectacled look; tail tip may show a slight central notch.

HabitatPrimarily pine woodland and mixed pine–deciduous forest; usually forages in pines, from the ground to the canopy, and also uses wooded edges and similar tree cover outside the breeding season.

BehaviorForages deliberately along branches, bark, needles, and pine cones; also takes insects, spiders, fruits, and seeds, and may visit elevated feeders for seeds or suet.
