Field marks
- Plain olive-brown upperparts with no wingbars
- Bold, bright white eyebrow stripe
- White underparts with heavy dark streaking on breast and sides
- Usually plain white throat and warm buff wash on flanks and undertail
- Relatively long, sturdy pointed bill
- Pinkish legs and a short, square-tipped to rounded tail
HabitatForested streams, creeks, brooks, ravines, and other shaded freshwater edges; favors flowing water and nearby wet ground.
BehaviorWalks and forages at the water’s edge, often bobbing the rear of its body; commonly feeds among wet leaves, moss, stones, and shallow running water.
