Field marks

  1. Bright yellow face and underparts
  2. Adult male has a black hood and throat framing the face
  3. Olive-green upperparts with dusky, rounded wings

  6. Longish tail with contrasting white outer feathers

HabitatMature deciduous or mixed forest with a dense, shrubby understory; also forest edges, clearings, lowland tropical forest, secondary scrub, and brushy fields outside the breeding season.

BehaviorAn active understory foliage gleaner that hops along the ground and through low branches, picking insects and spiders from foliage and making short aerial sallies. Frequently flicks or fans its tail to flash the white outer feathers; generally solitary and territorial.
