Field marks

  1. Rich brown to olive-brown upperparts
  2. Warm reddish-brown tail contrasting with the browner back
  3. Thin pale eye-ring around a dark eye
  4. Pale underparts with dark spots on the throat and smudgy breast spotting
  5. Round-headed, full-bodied profile with a slender straight bill and fairly long tail

HabitatForest understory and floor, especially in deciduous, coniferous, or mixed woodland with edges, openings, shrubs, and leaf litter.

BehaviorGround-foraging thrush that hops and scrapes through leaf litter; often flicks its wings and slowly bobs or raises its tail.
