Field marks

  1. Olive-gray upperparts with a pale, off-white throat and belly
  2. Dusky breast sides create a subtle gray “vested” look
  3. Long, pointed wings and a relatively long, narrow tail
  4. Small peaked crown gives the head a slightly triangular profile
  5. Two thin, pale wingbars; juveniles may show buffier bars
  6. Fine, dark upper bill with a mostly yellow-orange lower mandible; little or no eye-ring

HabitatOpen deciduous or mixed woodland, forest edges, clearings, groves, and other wooded habitat with exposed perches.

BehaviorPerches upright on exposed branches, then sallies out to catch flying insects and commonly returns to the same or a nearby perch.
