Field marks
- Small, upright flycatcher with a relatively large, peaked-looking head
- Olive-green upperparts and pale whitish to yellow-washed underparts
- Thin, distinct pale eye-ring around a dark eye
- Dark wings with two clear pale wingbars and long wing tips
- Broad, flat bill: dark above and orange-yellow below
- Long, fairly square-tipped tail; dark legs
HabitatMature deciduous forest and woodland, especially shaded lowlands near streams, rivers, swamps, ravines, or other wet forest; also tropical forest in the nonbreeding season.
BehaviorPerches upright at mid-levels, then sallies or hovers to catch insects in the air or from foliage; also takes spiders and small fruits.
